Water and Air



This photo shows the painting "Lattice" propped against one wall of the studio. Scale is important in this painting and in the paintings that go with it. When a painting is large in this way, you relate to it more viscerally. The bird of the picture is above you. You must look up to see it. It's also larger than a real bird. You look up at the bird just as you might in life, only this bird is very large. The looking up at the bird and seeing the fish swimming away toward the edge of the picture creates a dynamic between the worlds represented by these animals, between water and air.
