Night Water

The idea of night is one that I've tried to express in many paintings. I don't find myself wanting to portray a particular nocturnal scene so much as to portray something of the feeling of night, and here night is combined to the idea of water and sleep. The swan is sleeping, the moon hangs over the center iconically, various images hang suspended around the edges like thoughts. Something about dreaming is also present. The predominant element, though, is simply the color -- the very dark, almost blackish saphire blue color.

It's a rather large painting done with acrylics.

The rectangular box at the lower left was originally supposed to feature a design, but I never completed the design and afterwards realized that its net-like veil was layered -- as a dream both shows and veils thoughts and transparently covers layers of meaning.
